Strange New Dinosaur
This particular dinosaur has been making a lot of headlines lately:
Ironically/thrillingly enough, I received the email about it from Beccarii last thursday or so after a whirlwind day at an awards ceremony. I clicked through the links and realized that the dinosaur was being displayed at the National Geographic Explorer's Hall in D.C. and...er...well...I was in D.C.! So on Friday I hopped on the Metro and...well...pictures are worth a thousand words.

The pictures were taken with an 8 megapixel camera, so if you can possibly zoom in you might see the rows of teeth in the last picture.
This dinosaur is really, really cool! I might be having one of those 'I went into the wrong field' moments...

Comments:
Great photos, Prof. Aa. I'm bluebird-of-happines-level glad that the timing of my message worked out this way.
'Mesozoic cow' - isn't that a great descriptor?

An excellent descriptor, as is vacuum. Some colleagues and I have been speculating on its unique features, and wondering whether this was a semi-amphibious dinosaur much like a modern hippo. I've also noticed the bird like features on the head, but haven't seen any grinders in the back of the skull...so I wonder if it simply sheared off the ferns/etc, and then rocks (or other matter) in the intenstines ground the green matter up.
What fun! (and thanks for the link...absolutely phenomenal timing!)

PZ says that it looks like something that might show up on The Flintstones as a lawnmower - I like that description, as well
I love Nigersaurus, and I love the DC Metro. I so much wish that an analogous system existed in the Twin Cities...
Prof. Aa, you should know that your last photo of Nigersaurus on this page has now displaced a novel representation of one of my High Priests as my desktop background photo. Such is your power (not to mention that of your camera).
Yes, the DC metro is quite excellent! I wish we had the equivalent here also.
I almost hesitate to wonder which high priest graced your desk top and what was 'novel' (I hate that word by the way) about it (though I imagine a certain 'stink' was involved).
